Homework: copy your hand written notes to a LibreOffice Writer document

Day 3

  • Continued with LibreOffice writer
  • Taught them basic tools:
    • Text Alignment
    • Header / Footer
    • Lists: Ordered, Unordered
    • Download and installed a font (also explained what a ZIP file it, they later asked to elaborate)

Homework: download and install some fonts from Google fonts

  • Spent quite sometime explaining what keyboard shortcuts are and the important ones:
    • Ctrl + S
    • Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V
    • Ctrl + B, I, U for basic formatting
    • The most important: Ctrl + Z (Undo)
    • Ctrl + Y (redo)
  • Showed them the inside of a CPU live (took an old CPU)
  • Showed them Find & Replace feature
  • Inserting Tables
  • Ended with exporting a PDF and why PDF explanation

BONUS: showed them how to take screenshots in Ubuntu, what clipboard is (as the screenshot was copied to clipboard) and inserting those in LibreOffice Writer.

  • Brief introduction to LibreOffice calc (got connected with Tables)

Homework: copy notes to writer, also use screenshots!

Day 4

LibreOffice Calc

  • Rows, Columns, Cells (Cell Address too)
  • Data Entry process (with some sample data: Kirana store sales example)
  • Formula (start simple: =2+2, etc., show basic operators, specially *, /, ^)
  • Then show how you can use address like E2 in formulas (change the cell data, calculation updates)
  • The apply on the sample data (I used sales - purchase - expense to get profit)
  • Then pull to autofill, magic
  • Then show functions: SUM, AVG, etc. with ranges, e.g. E2:E11
  • Explain Sorting (ascending, descending) and filtering on the board first
  • Then show how to do sorting in Calc
  • Show auto filter (Data > AutoFilter)
  • E.g. less than 18 etc.
  • Show charts
    • Types of charts: Line, Pie, Bar
    • Chart elements (Legends, title, axes labels, etc.)
    • Color customisations
    • Data Series

Day 5

  • [Was a Saturday] But this seemed like a good point to revise
  • We had all hands, where everyone shared their weekly updates and learnings
